OCCASIONS
A practical everyday bag for commutes, errands, and weekend outings where you want hands-free carry without the bulk of a larger messenger. The 4.25" depth gives it more capacity than most small crossbodies in this size range, making it a strong choice for days when a slim crossbody isn't quite enough but a full tote is more than you need. Compact enough for city exploring and travel days when you want everything secure and within reach.
WHAT FITS
At 9"W × 6.25"H × 4.25"D this messenger carries more than its footprint suggests. Fits smartphones up to 6.1" including the iPhone 17 and most standard Android devices. Interior holds a slim wallet or card case, keys, earbuds, lip balm, a small compact, and a few daily extras. The front exterior slip pocket keeps a phone or transit card accessible without opening the main compartment. The back exterior slip pocket works well for folded cash or a spare card. The interior back slip pocket is best used for items you want kept separate and secure.
FAQ
What is the best small Michael Kors bag for everyday carry that holds more than a crossbody?
The Marilyn Small Messenger sits between a slim crossbody and a mid-size shoulder bag in terms of capacity. At 4.25" deep it holds significantly more than a flat crossbody while keeping a compact 9" × 6.25" footprint. It is the right choice for anyone who finds small crossbodies too limiting but doesn't want the bulk of a full messenger or tote.
Is this bag secure enough for commuting and city use?
Yes. The zip-top closure keeps contents secure in crowded transit environments, and the adjustable crossbody strap lets you wear it close to the body. The front exterior slip pocket is convenient for a transit card but best kept for lower-value items given it is not zip secured.
How does this compare to the Jet Set Travel Small Messenger Bag?
Both bags share identical dimensions at 9"W × 6.25"H — wait, the Jet Set Travel Small Messenger is 8.25"W × 8.25"H × 2.75"D, a square silhouette that is shallower at 2.75"D. The Marilyn Small Messenger is deeper at 4.25"D, giving it more interior volume despite a similar overall size. The Marilyn also has more exterior pocket access with both front and back slip pockets versus the Jet Set's single back slip pocket.
